Hengda
Li, founder of the Asian Performing Arts Theater, graduated
from the Shenyang Dance Academy in 1980 and the Beijing Dance Academy
in 1984. Considered one of China's finest dancers, he was principal
dancer in the National Premier Dancers Troupe from 1985 to 1990.
Hengda took top honors in a number of China's most prestigious dance
competitions. In 1991 he immigrated to the United States where he
performed as a soloist with the Pacific Northwest Ballet for six
years before founding Hengda Dance Academy. Hengda also has taught
in Russia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada and other countries.
In
November1993, Mr. Li HengDa founded Hengda Dance Academy in Seattle.
It is the first professional Chinese Dance Academy established in
the Pacific Northwest. Today, the Academy is located in Seattle,
with a branch in Bellevue, and student enrollment has exceeded one
hundred. Most of the students come from the Greater Seattle area,
Tacoma and Olympia, with age ranging from 4-year-olds to adults.
Our curriculum includes Chinese ethnic and folk dance, basic ballet
skills, international ballroom and social dance, and aerobics. After
the school opening in 1995, 96, 98 and 2002, the Academy was the
recipient of numerous First Prize Trophies at the North America
Chinese Dance Contests held in Vancouver, Canada. Some students
also received the Performance and Special Awards in the 3rd Chinese
Taoli Cup National Dance Competition in China. Since 1995, Hengda
Dance Academy has presented seven annual dance events and was highly
evaluated by the audiences.
